Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard (jaw) could return next week

The Chicago Blackhawks hope star rookie Connor Bedard can return to recreation motion next week after lacking six weeks with a fractured jaw.

Bedard, the No. 1 choose of the 2023 NHL draft, suffered the harm Jan. 5 when on the receiving finish of a giant hit from New Jersey Devils defenseman Brendan Smith.

The 18-year-old underwent surgical procedure and returned to the ice simply seven days later. Reports on the time mentioned he would miss six to eight weeks of the season earlier than being able to return.

“We’re hoping after that six-week mark [after surgery], so that will be a week from today, I guess,” Chicago coach Luke Richardson instructed reporters Monday.

Richardson mentioned Bedard was instructed he didn’t must have imaging executed on his jaw this week as a result of “everything was on pace and looks to be on the same timeline that they thought.”

Despite Bedard lacking over a month with the harm, his 33 factors and 15 objectives nonetheless lead all rookies this season.
