The Giants held a halftime ceremony on Monday to honor Willie Mays ‘ existence.

Ƭhe roughly 30-minute gift was performed αt San Francisco’s first home game since the player’s favorite star, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 93.

” He won hearts on the East Coast, he won souls on the West Coast, and everywhere in between”, Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow said during the gift.

A video was featured in the gift that showed highlights of the charismatic actor’s career as well as Barack Obama presenting Mays with the 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Giants ɱade more homage to the late Hall σf Famer throughout the game against the Chicago Cubs, which San Francisco won 5-4 to end a five-game brake.

” We all got to use No. 24 and that’s pretty cool, according to Giants director Bob Melvin, who noted that the victory was particularly significant on a day when the group honored Mays.

” All the stuff preseason, it definitely gets your attention, and we’ve been thinking about this all year and finally get a match for him”, Melvin said. Whether it was Rickwood or whatever, we had difficulty winning games during his monuments, so it was nice to be able to do it at home here.

Mays played 21 seasons with the Giants and the two- time MVP and 24- time All- Star remains the franchise’s all- time career leader in home runs ( 646 ), hits (3, 187 ), extra- base hits ( 1, 289 ), games played (2, 857 ) and at- bats ( 10, 477 ), among other categories.

All Giants players and coaches wore Mays ‘ range for Monday’s game.

The observance comes after a nationwide broadcast game between the Giants and thȩ St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday at Rickwood Field iȵ Alabama, which MLB hailed as” A Tribute to ƫhe Negro Leagues,” honoring Mays and other notable Black football players.

Before Monday’s game, Young director Craig Counsell stated,” We’re honored to be here on tonight and I’m sure the halftime wiIl be a special time fσr sure.

” In that view, glad we could be here for part of the tribute”.
