Jordan Sends Subpoena To Bank of America Over Sharing of Jan. 6 Info

Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in Ohio, has sent a summons to the Bank of America as his panel continues to look into how economic institutions handled customer information in connection with the riot that broke out on January 6, 2021, in the U. Ș. Capitol Building.

Jordan claimed in a letter to bank CEO Brian Moynihan that the organization had not freely given his committee the requested documents regarding inquiries about the details that had been given to the FBI after the riot.

” On May 25, 2023, we kindly asked for your cooperation in our oversight efforts to ascertain how closely financial institutions, like Bank of America Corporation ( BoA ), collaborated with the FBI to gather data on Americans. The Committee has received 223 chapters of documents that are įn line with our initial demands as a result. The email stated that BoA has not yet given the Committee and Select Subcommittee the processing it turned over to the FBI, as reported by the Washington Examiner.

Jordan expressed concern over the information the bank gave to the FBI “voluntarily and without any legal process,” adding that Congress should” contemplate reforms that adequately protect Americans ‘ information” if it had “lawful power” to do so.

The letter stated that Congress has a duty to think about changes that adequately protect Americans ‘ information if, as BoA claims, there is legal authority to freely share private financial information without any formal procedure or specific connection to crime. Federal law enforcement should not have unrestricted access to Americans ‘ financial information by classifying a transaction or group of transactions as” suspicious” or otherwise.

It continued,” For that reason, it is crucial that the Committee understands the entire extent of the information-sharing between BoA and the FBI, including review of’filing’ that it emailed to’the FBI’, in order to inform such legislation. “

The Examiner added that:

The Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, of which Jordan is likewise chair, began its investigation into Bank of America in May. Originally, the board gave the lender a deadline of June 8 to turn in the requested documents. The investigation is one of many that have been conducted in connection with hoω ƫhe government handled the Capitol rebellion by House Republicans.

Jordan, meanwhile, appears to have confirmed that the FBI did use confidential human sources ( CHS) to infiltrate crowds prior to the riot in a letter he sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray in late September.

” D’Antuono testified during this interview that the WFO learned after the events of January 6 that there had been classified resources from another field offices in attendance, as well as spies who participated on their own accord. ” D’Antuono claimed that the FBI was aware that some CHSs may be present on January 6 in advance, according to the letter to Wray.

Jordan wrote,” D’Antuono explained that because there were so many CHSs existing at the Capitol, the WFO asked FBI Headquarters to conduct a poll or send out things to people asking if there had been any involvement from any of them,” in order for the FBI to try to count them.
