A bunch of radical pro-Palestinian activists took over a constructing on the University of California Berkeley on Wednesday, simply hours after directors and protesters struck a deal to finish a weeks-long “encampment.”

The Daily Californian, the UC Berkeley scholar newspaper, reported:

A bunch of pro-Palestine protesters broke in and took over Anna Head Alumnae Hall on Wednesday afternoon.

The protesters — gathering in a bunch of about 30 by 3:15 p.m. — hung up the Palestinian flag in addition to boards studying “Free Gaza” and “Avenge Al Shifa.” [Al-Shifa is a hospital in Gaza that was taken over by terrorists, and where the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) killed and arrested hundreds in battles last month, with zero civilian casualties.] There additionally seem to be protesters contained in the corridor, in accordance to photos circulating on Instagram.

“We are occupying the hall because saying ‘free Palestine’ is not enough,” a speaker from the corridor stated. “You have to put action behind your words.”

Earlier, the Daily Californian reported, the protesters agreed to disband the encampment in return for a promise by the college to look at its broad funding methods — albeit with out particularly divesting from Israel.

The Daily Californian noted:

Chancellor Carol Christ agreed to “support a comprehensive and rigorous examination of our investments and our socially responsible investment strategy” in trade for the decampment.

The settlement, which was first signed and despatched to encampment negotiators early May, included Christ’s plan to request the UC Berkeley Foundation to expedite listening to considerations on funding, a request to the Chair of the Regents Investment Committee to develop a broader framework for moral funding methods and the creation of a UC Berkeley Divestment Task Force made up of scholars, college and employees.

As a part of the settlement, the Foundation’s Environmental, Social, and Governance, or ESG, Committee will hear group considerations on particular business sectors together with weapons manufacturing, mass incarceration and surveillance industries.Should the ESG Committee deem “the issue … serious enough to consider divestment,” the settlement states, the committee will create a divestment process drive in session with college students and administration.

However, in a separate letter, UC Berkeley Chancellor Crist defined to the tutorial senate that divestment from Israel was “not permissible”:

I acknowledge the UCB Divest Coalition demand is full divestment from Israel. As acknowledged by the University of California Office of the President, such divestment isn’t permissible. In no means might any standards established restrict in any means investing in corporations on the premise of whether or not or not they do enterprise with or in Israel.

The University of California as an entire has rejected divestment from Israel, or boycotting Israeli universities, due to considerations about tutorial freedom. However, as Breitbart News has pointed out elsewhere, boycotting or divesting from Israel may additionally be illegal below California’s anti-“boycott, divestment, sanctions” (BDS) legal guidelines.

The nation has seen a wave of pro-Palestinian — and infrequently pro-Hamas, pro-terror, and antisemitic — campus protests, which have taken the type of “encampments” during which college students have seized college property and stayed in a single day.

UC Berkeley was, till Wednesday night, certainly one of a number of universities at which pro-Palestinian activists agreed to disband their encampments after reaching agreements with directors. Others noticed police intervene to take away and arrest protesters; and nonetheless others noticed encampments merely disband with out having any of their calls for met.

A couple of — such because the protest at Columbia University — noticed activists escalate their tactic by taking on buildings.
