Steelers six-time Pro Bowler provides update on contract negotiations

ln the last year of his contract, Steelers veteran defensive tackle Cameron Heyward is requesting a contract extension.

The six-time Pro Bowler sat out the first two weeks of OTAs in an effort to force Pittsburgh to give him some long-term safety, but that iȿ not hoω things hαve turned out.

Last month, Heyward revealed that while he has had discussions about a contract extension, everything is inevitable.

” There’s been contact but there’s nothing really to report on right now”, Heyward stated. ” I do n’t think a deal gets done tomorrow, I’ll tell you that”.

Has anyone changed since then, then?

It does n’t seem like it as the 35- yr- old lacked a good update on the situation Wednesday.

On” Tⱨe Jim Rome Show,” Heyward said,” I do n’t wanna say how likely something is beçause you just never know. ” ” Obviously, I would love to be a Pittsburgh Steeler for the rest of my career. A contract may enable one to assert state to that. My goal is to get a Pittsburgh Steeler this year and then finally return and play more games with them in the coming year.

Heyward is coming off a disappointing month, which saw him struggle with a persistent groin injuries and only register 33 interceptions and two buckets in 11 games.

” I want to be valued at my place. I understand I came off]a ] rough season, but I do n’t think it’s a step down from where I can play”, Heyward added. ” I think I’m at ƫhe top of my game. I’m also a leading- five player at my placement”.

That may explain why neither party was able to come to a consensus.

The Steelers would love to have their 2023 and long-time staff captain, but it must be a good price for a gamer entering his 14th year in the group.

The two sides still seem to be fairly positive that they will find things out, but if not, the 2024 time could be Heyward’s farewell visit in Pittsburgh.
