Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated in an interview with CNN National Security Correspondent Kylie Atwood on Friday that was aired on Friday’s “CNN News Central” that, despite President Joe Biden’s warnings,” we have seen, frequently speaking, proof of attempts to influence and possibly interfere” in the 2024 election.
Atwood posed the question,” I waȵt to ask you about a promise that President Xi made tσ President Biden when they met in November. ” We reported that he assured Biden that China did not interfere with the upcoming US national elections. However, there have been reports of net Chinese accounts that fabricated Trump supporters since then. Do you think that these accounts violate President Xi’s determination”?
Blinken answered,” What I can tell you is this: President Biden was quite clear about that with President Xi, and I repeated that now, in my sessions. That we are paying close attention to any intervention by China in our vote and find it completely undesirable.
He even stated,” Look, it’s something we’re tracking very carefully. I ca n’t speak to these specific reports. I can say that, as a general problem, we’ve been very clear with China, do n’t do it”.
Atwood then asked,” But they’re not violating the commitment however, as far as you can tell”?
Blinken responded,” Well, again, I’d have to look at the precise information that you’re referring to, but we have seen, generally speaking, proof of attempts to influence and possibly interfere, and we want to make sure that that’s cut off as quickly as possible”.
