Mickey Loomis on Derek Carr: I think the arrow is up and we’re excited

Derek Carr spent nine times with the Raiders before joining the Saints in 2023.

The team finished with a 9-8 overall record and won four of its final five matches to pose for a playoff spot.

Carr started all 17 activities, completing 68 percent of his passes for 3, 878 yards with 25 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Carr was present for all games, but he struggled to get through those games, as G. M. Mickey Loomis noted in a new meeting with SiriusXM NFL Radio.

” Look, one thing that’s been understated — it’s on purpose — is Derek had a very challenging year last year, physically”, Loomis said. He “got very fine in the Green Bay game,” according to his coach, and it took him a while to develop that confidence. And, look, he played through it. He’s as strong as they come. But it had an impact on him, especially during our peak time.

I enjoyed his performance toward the finish. He became comfortable with our devices and our talented positional experts. Additionally, we need to perform better to protect him.

Carr appears more at ease as he enters his second year in the building, according to Loomis, like anyone would remain. The Saints have plenty of stability on which to rely, despite the Saints ‘ addition of Klint Kubiak as their offensive coordinator.

“]T] he environment are more common, the coaches are more common, the atmosphere that we have in our creating is comfortable,” Loomis said”. But, I believe the arrow has been raised and that Derek is eager to contribute. And I know he’s excited.

No matter how great you are or what position you hold, it’s difficult to assume that leadership position when you first enter a building. But, he’s going to feel more at ease about the quarterback’s authority, and we’re anticipating great things from him now, a year later.
