Rutgers QB transfer signs with UK

Rutgers quarterback transfer Gavin Wimsatt has committed to and signed with Kentucky.

On Monday, the Owensboro local made a visit.

More from CatsPause . com’s Aaron Gershon on Wimsatt and his career with the Scarlet Knights:

” Wimsatt, a 6- feet- 3 Owensboro High School student, chose Rutgers over Kentucky and several others as a four- celebrity class of 2021 higher school prospect. In order to maintain a redshirt season, he completed 9 of 21 pass attempts for 45 feet, two interceptions, and added 67 yards on the ground in four games as a real freshman in 2021.

Wimsatt started six activities for the Scarlet Knights in 2022, playing in eight. He rushed for 63 miles on 40 efforts and made 44. 8 percentage of his moves, totaling 757 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions, in addition to his year-high total of 67. In his six starts, Rutgers posted a 0- 6 history in his six begins and went 4- 8 on the year.

Before the 2023 time, Wimsatt was chosen as the team’s player. He then started all 13 of his games, totaling 47 % of his passes for 1, 735 yards, nine touchdowns, and adding a career-high 497 yards on the ground with 11 rushing touchdowns, for a total of 47. 8 %.

His 11 rushing yards, the most by a player in system history, led Big Ten quarterbacks in 2023 and placed him third among quarterbacks nationwide, setting a new Rutgers player record.

With Wimsatt under facility, Rutgers posted a 7- 6 history and earned a charge to the Pinstripe Bowl, where it lost to Miami. The 7- 6 history was Rutgers ‘ best since 2014, when the Scarlet Knights went 8- 5.

Following Rutgers ‘ addition of Athan Kaliakmanis, who started for Minnesota last season, and Kaliakmanis ‘ selection as its starting quarterback following spring camp, Wimsatt made the decision to move.

The Owensboro local still has two years to qualify.

Wimsatt joins real rookie Cutter Boley and Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff as the team’s three quarterbacks who are currently receiving scholarships. Beau Allen, a walk-on, also joined Georgia State. No player from the Wildcats ‘ previous season’s squad was ever returned.
