Alabama Fire Station to Open First Safe Haven Baby Box in State

A hearth station in Alabama is working to open the state’s first Safe Haven Baby Box in the approaching weeks.

The child field is being put in at Madison Fire Station One on Mill Road, WAFF48 reported.

Dan Pickens with Madison Fire and Rescue stated the field shall be prepared in a couple of weeks and should first undergo a seven-day check part to be sure it’s working correctly.

“[A]nd then there would be the blessing of the box where there would be an actual priest come out bless the box and put in service,” Pickens stated.

Baby containers have been created to deter mother and father from abandoning their newborns, probably leaving them to die. Baby containers are temperature-controlled incubators which are usually constructed into exterior, exterior partitions of fireside stations, police stations, and hospitals and will be accessed from inside. At-risk moms can safely and legally place their newborns inside. Then, the surface door locks, and moms have time to get away earlier than an alarm goes off alerting first responders or hospital employees inside.

The child is then rapidly eliminated and despatched to a hospital for a wellness test. From there, the infant is often positioned into state custody and infrequently rapidly adopted.

“The non-profit group Kids to Love spearheaded a bill that passed the Alabama legislature this year, allowing baby boxes to be installed in the state. It also expanded the state’s Safe Haven Law, allowing mothers to surrender their child up to 45 days,” in accordance to the report.

Several different cities in Alabama are wanting to set up Safe Haven Baby Boxes, together with Mobile, Opelika, and Selma, in accordance to the report.
