Canada is constructing the country’s first “national 2SLGBTQI+ monument”, and the proposed design is blurring the lines between real life and movie.
Construction began in downtown Ottawa on Wednesday, with activists, politicians, and” Aboriginal elders” attending a ground- breaking meeting to mark the structure, CBC reported.
The LGBT Purge Fund, a nonprofit that was awarded nearly$ 24 million from the Canadian government in a class-action discrimination lawsuit, will pay the project’s$ 13 million ( CAD ).
Some social media users believe that the design, which Liberal MP Seamus O’Regan Jr. shared, was insufficiently expensive.
O’Regan wrote on X that” Canada will be home to the first nationwide 2SLGBTQI+ monument in the world” and that the image of a barrel with gaping holes was included.
” No, we wo n’t go back”, the MP added:
Canada will be home to the first regional 2SLGBTQI+ statue in the world.

” The design of the statue centers around a monument shaped similar to a thunderhead sky, meant to ‘ represent the power, engagement and hope’ of 2SLGBTQ+ communities”, the outlet noted.
The framework received tons of backlash for its puzzling pattern, with writer Eva Kurilova of Calgary, Alberta commenting,” You are making citizens dislike us.”:
You are making citizens dislike us.

” And that makes us the world’s laughing property. ” Why do we have a monument celebrating masculinity? You are actually promoting this as a justification. … I do n’t want my tax dollars funding this crap”, wrote another concerned X user named Michelle:

” Virtue signaling away, could it be any uglier? Amazing Zoltan, a father of British Columbia information, said:” I thought gay folks were supposed to be good at style.
Virtue signaling apart, could it be any uglier? I believed that queer people were good at style.

The design was so ill received, it was featured on” Not the Bee” due to its almost satirical character.
