As the House approved a$ 61 billion bill to support Ukraine’s war effort on Saturday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) and Democrats painted a bizarre scene on the floor.
Liberals produced dozens of smaller Ukraine flags, waiving them, and chanting “Ukraine! ” as the result approached. ” joyously.
Johnson approached the seat as the voting ended, receiving the loudest Democrats ‘ applause of the day and possibly the entire Congress.
“It is in violation of politeness to wave flags on the floor, ” Johnson admonished Democrats, who cared little.
Today’s vote was a real fact, but for decades it seemed impossible. Johnson had constantly promised not to consider international aid without initial securing America’s own border.
Johnson was given the opportunity to walk on the border as a result of Iran’s missile attacks against Israel last year. He had the opportunity to add a border security bill to his parliamentary toolkit, which was the bipartisan urgency to get Israel’s aid. Progressives would have had to choose a difficult election time.
It was the greatest leverage, either to improve border security or Ukraine– or both, if Johnson tried.
The colors that Democrats chose to storm drove home Johnson ’s decision.
