Ohio Teen Accused in Shooting Plot at Synagogue Must Write Book Report

A 13-year-old accused of planning a mass taking pictures at a Jewish synagogue in Canton, Ohio, has reportedly acquired a sentence that features writing a e book report on a person who saved many Jews throughout World War II.

Court information say the boy allegedly wished to focus on the Temple Israel, WKYC reported Monday:

On Friday, the teenager pleaded “true,” the juvenile equal of responsible, to the misdemeanor counts of inducing panic and disorderly conduct. Stark County Family Court Judge Jim James suspended a 90-day sentence for the teenager at the Multi-County Juvenile Attention Center, giving him a yr of probation with the next circumstances:

  • No unsupervised use of the web
  • Continue to endure counseling with a licensed therapist
  • Read a e book about Swiss diplomat Carl Lutz, credited with saving over 62,000 Jews throughout World War II. The teen is then ordered to jot down a e book report back to the juvenile probation division.

A CBC News report from 2018 said, “Sometimes referred to as the Swiss Schindler, Carl Lutz’s efforts to save Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust aren’t well-known, despite him being credited with the largest civilian rescue of Jewish people during the Second World War.”

Per the WKYC report, officers with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office mentioned deputies went to a house in Plain Township in early September to research a report a few younger teenager who was allegedly having “concerning conversations” on-line.

The boy reportedly “made detailed threats on Discord, a messaging platform popular among gamers,” in response to ABC News.

Some of the threats had been allegedly made towards the Temple Israel in Canton.

According to an NBC News report from December 14, Temple Israel “was the latest institution threatened with a mass shooting”:

The boy’s household described him as a “good, smart kid” who attended church on Sundays. However, the kinfolk mentioned he had been influenced by males on the Discord platform.
