Republicans Put the ‘Rights of a Fertilized Egg Over’ the Rights of Women

Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) stated Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Republicans have put the “rights of a fertilized egg over” the rights of girls in America.

MARTHA RADDATZ: What was your response whenever you noticed the Supreme Court determination in Alabama?

DUCKWORTH: Not in any respect shocked, sadly. I’ve been speaking about this in 2018 when it was very clear that Republicans have been working to eradicate girls’s reproductive rights. I stated if Neil Gorsuch will get placed on the Supreme Court, if Amy Coney Barrett will get placed on the Supreme Court, we’re going to have an erosion of Roe v. Wade, and even again in 2018, I stated, IVF is subsequent. They stated they’re coming for IVF. So, sadly, I wasn’t shocked. I’m devastated for these households which can be making an attempt to begin households, however I used to be in no way shocked.

RADDATZ: And simply to be clear, the determination doesn’t outlaw IVF, however clearly makes it extra sophisticated. Can you freeze these embryos? What do you do with embryos that aren’t used, proper?

DUCKWORTH: Well, the determination may be very clear that a fertilized egg is a youngster, is a human being, which signifies that for instance in my case, when now we have 5 fertilized eggs and three have been non-viable.
