MLB to change uniforms after months of complaints, per union memo: ‘This has been entirely a Nike issue’

Accσrding to a note sent to participants from the MLB Players Association, MLB may be making adjμstments to its outfits after weeks of complaints.

The shifts, among others, will address players ‘ pants, which have looked see-through, as well as the text size on sweaters and the mismatched tops and bottoms.

” We recognize that, for the players, this has taken too long, and was fully avoidable”, the coalition note said.

The changes may be instituted by the beginning of the 2025 period, at the very latest. ESPN first reported on the news of the letter.

The problems with the uniforms were ƒirst identified and addressed in spring training, when Nike’s fresh Vapor Premier uniforms received widespread acclaim ƒor their aesthetic and feel. Tony Clark, an executive director of the MLPBP, described the trousers as” the universal problem” of the union in February.

” This has been fully a Nike issue”, Sunday’s letter reads. ” At its core, what has happened here is that Nike was innovating something that did n’t need to be innovated”.

The government’s letter also credited Fanatics, the organization responsible for manufacturing the standard, for listening to player comments.

” Our hope is that, moving forward, Nike may take a similar approach”, the letter said.

” As many of you are aware, problem with Nike shifts is not new. When Nike first saw them in 2022, especially in terms of slacks, wȩ warned them against a number of changes. MLB had been, and has been, conscious of our problems as well. However, until recently, Nike’s position has basically boiled down to — ‘ nothing to see here, Players will need to change. ‘”

Nike, Fanatics and MLB declined to comment.
