Warren Buffett compares AI to nuclear weapons, warns of scamming potential

At Berkshire Hathaway’s annual conference on Saturday, Warren Buffett compared artificial intelligence to the development of nuclear weapons and issued a notice about the possibility of frauds.

The billionaire investor and co-founder of Berkshire Hathaway admitted,” I do n’t know anything about AI,” but that does n’t mean I ca n’t refute its existence, significance, or anything else. “

He once more retorted what he said the year before,” When we developed nuclear weapons, we let a genie out of the bottle. ” And since, that fairy has been engaging in some terrible behavior. And I’m terrified of the power of that djinn, you know. And on the other hand, I do n’t know any way to get the genie back in the bottle”.

The 93- yr- aged philanthropist said AI is” fairly similar”.

” It’s part the way out of the bottle, and it’s incredibly important, and it’s going to be done by someone,” he said. ” We may wish we had n’t seen that genie, or it might do wonderful things,” he said.

He also talked about the “enormous ability” for schemes using AI.

” If you can reproduce images I ca n’t even tell that say ‘ I need money,’ you know,’ It’s your daughter, just had a car crash. I need$ 50, 000 wired. ‘ Scamming has always been a big part of American culture, but this would indicate that if I were interested in investing in it, it would be the fastest-growing business ever. And it’s enabled in a way. Obviously, AI has potential for good things too but I do n’t know how you, based on the one I saw recently, I practically would send money to myself over and over in some crazy country”.

He claimed that he had no idea how the world should handle AI because” I do n’t think we know how to handle what we did with the nuclear genie. ” However, I do believe that it has both enormous potential for good and enormous potential for harm, and I do n’t know how that will turn out, as someone who ca n’t even understand it.

This week’s meeting was the first without Berkshire Hathaway’s vice president Charlie Munger, who died last fall at 99.
