Guardians to call up top prospect Kyle Manzardo, place Steven Kwan on IL: Source

Cleveland’s Countdown sped up as soon as Aaron Civale’s trade to the Tampa Bay Rays happened next summers.

The Tampa Bay Rays needed to strengthen their slender pitching staff despite not wanting to part with Kyle Manzardo. After struggling for the first four months of the time, the Guardians were concerned about Civale’s business value, which had reached a peak. They had trouble acquiring middle-of-the-order bats, particularly those capable of launching a ball over the field fence.

Thus, the two groups hooked up for a business. Tampa may soon start to regret the swap, according to a league source who was present at the time. Nine months later, we’ll start to find out if that’s the case.

According to a league source, Manzardo will be added to the Guardians ‘ active squad starting on Monday.

Steven Kwan will be added to the list of 10 day hurt people with a quit hamstring injury.

The Guardians are in first position in the AL Central and have the third-best run differential in the group because of Kwan’s fueled Cleveland’s portfolio for the first six months of the time. Then, it’ll be up to Manzardo to offer some power and patience from the left side, behind José Ramírez and Josh Naylor in the flesh of Stephen Vogt’s batting order.

Manzardo, 23, has checked every package on the group’s to- would list so far. He showed his combination of power and disk skill at Triple-A Columbus and the Arizona Fall League when he recovered from a neck injury last summer. He did well in spring training, so much so that Guardians hitting manager Chris Valaika claimed that he resembled Wade Boggs in the batter’s box ( and not just because of his beard ).

In 29 games with Columbus this winter, Manzardo has recorded a. 303/. 375/. 642 slash range, with nine home operates, 10 doubles and good walk and strike rates.

He certainly appeared to have nothing to do in the juveniles, but according to sources, the Guardians resisted making him a priority because of the size of their big-league lineup. They’re currently short on correct- handed owls, so they’re anxious to cut ties with experienced Ramón Laureano thus early in the season. They’re also curious about what Estevan Florial, Will Brennan and Tyler Freeman can contribute, too. They have more time to sort out their outside chaos while even incorporating Manzardo into the everyday lineup mix with Kwan out.

In Washington State’s next round of the 2021 review, the Rays selected Manzardo. The local of Couer d’Alene, Idaho, was ranked the No. 66 promise in baseball by The Athletic‘s Keith Law before the 2024 season. Manzardo and outfielder Chase DeLauter are widely considered the firm’s bottom two prospects. DeLauter, however, is dealing with a bone in the five foot in his left foot, the same finger he had surgery on in January 2023. He may meet with a professional on Wednesday. After a scorching flower performance, DeLauter had a strong season at Double-A Akron, earning him a lot of attention from the organization’s top decision-makers.

Kwan, however, suffered his hamstring injuries on Saturday night while chasing a fly ball in left field. He avoided injuries during his two-plus conditions in the major leagues despite having no qualms with adductor flare-ups throughout his college career at Oregon State and in the adolescents. He leads the AL with a. 353 batting average and ranks fifth with 1. 9 fWAR.
